WALL SOUNDPROOFING MATERIAL

soundproofing materialSoundproofing materials can be applied to the wall being built or added to the current wall after construction. There are several approaches for soundproof walls. Developments The soundproof sector has grown rapidly and resulted in more effective and lower cost products.

Whatever the application, opt for a porous structure insulation, such as a fibrous mattress trapping still air, for example, to “trap” and dampen the noise. This structure must be flexible enough to play the expected role according to the desired insulation (airborne sound insulation, impact noise or acoustic correction) and sufficiently rigid to ensure good mechanical behavior of the walls.

What is a good sound insulator?

In soundproofing as in thermal insulation, avoid universal products that promise hypothetical performance that does not solve noise problems … There is no painting or “miracle” wallpaper that isolates external noises! The choice of an insulation must be made taking into account the constraints and there are often in acoustics especially during renovation in the existing building!
If you are not sure of your diagnosis, it is wise to use an acoustician, expert in building acoustics, who can provide you with a complete and quality diagnosis of your building and propose corrective solutions specifically tailored to your site.
Each rehabilitation is unique because of the constructive system used in the construction, the materials used … and the insulation requirements targeted by the future occupant of the premises. To choose a sound or acoustic insulation solution, opt for a product or system whose performance has been evaluated and which is the subject of a test report from accredited or authoritative laboratories is a guarantee of quality.

The choice of isolation objectives

The acoustic insulation corresponds to the level of acoustic performance targeted for the insulation of a room in relation to neighboring premises. The better the isolation between two locals, the better the sound comfort felt. It is recommended, as a matter of principle, to choose a performance always higher than the intended objective (of the order of 5 decibels in addition to the objective) because it is necessary to take into account the differences in the performance of the product evaluated in the laboratory ( certified scientific measurement) and results measured on site after installation (in situ measurements).
Sound insulation is the set of techniques and processes used to obtain a desired acoustic insulation.

The indices of the materials

The insulating properties of building and insulating materials are expressed by performance indices expressed in dB. These indices, measured in the laboratory, characterize the performance of building elements to weaken sounds:
• for the airborne sounds it is the sound reduction index Rw expressed in dB. The more important Rw is, the better the weakening performance of the material.
• for the shock noises or impact noises, this is the efficiency index for shocking noises Δ Lw expressed in dB.
• in terms of acoustic correction, it is the absorbency of the material that is measured. Expressed as a global coefficient α w it is between 0 (total reflection: the material is not indicated to ensure the acoustic correction of the room) and 1 (total absorption: the material can contribute effectively to the acoustic correction of the room). Plus the coefficient α w is close to 1, the better is the absorption and all the acoustic correction of the room.
